5 Must-Read Books That Will Change Your Life!

For those of you know that know me personally, you know I am somewhat of a bookworm! I love books. I love to read. I love to learn and then (try to) implement what I have digested.

So when I was thinking about upcoming blog ideas I realised that I am yet to share with you all my favorite books and right there and then I had my next blog lined up!

This selection of books was really difficult to come up with - simply because this list could have easily been my top 10 books or top 20 books, but where would I end? These are the ones that I was able to narrow it down to that have changed my life in some way or another. For me, these books contain a high vibration that when you read them or draw knowledge from them, they elevate you into a higher way of living. For me the key is not just to read the book - rather to work with it too. Implement what you can, no matter how big or small and see how far you can go with the concept. For example, I once met a client who referred to themselves as a "Meditation Guru". As we got talking, it became clear that yes, this person had read tonnes of books about meditation (probably even more than me), yet they didn't actually meditate, practice mindfulness or up until the moment we met, worked with cleansing their Chakras! Many people can be extremely knowledgeable about spiritual belief systems and the ways of the soul, however, unless you take that knowledge and start to practice what you have learnt, you remain a student rather than practitioner.

To put it simply another way - just because you own (and have read through) many cook books, this doesn't automatically make you a cook. Nor does it make you a good cook! You need to practice and absorb the teachings behind it.

Back to this list - I won't go into too much detail on each book,

just enough to hopefully wet your appetite! And just so you know - these are not in any particular order - I tried that and just couldn't do it so I literally drew the names from a box as to the order they would appear for this list!

Number 1

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success - Deepak Chopra

The Seven Spiritual Laws which Deepak details are powerful principles you can implement to fulfill your deepest desires with effortless joy. Once you put them into practice, you’ll come to the realisation that you can manifest whatever you’ve been dreaming about.

As a reader, the laws of success aren’t difficult or ambiguous, rather they are exceptionally simple to both understand and apply. I know many of us have grown up with the notion that achieving success requires relentless hard work, grim determination, and un-compromised ambition. The outcome for many may see some of the goals reached but at what cost? Exhaustion? Our lives out of balance? This transformational book reflects the belief that such desperate striving isn’t necessary or even desirable. "In the natural world, creation comes forth with ease. A seed doesn’t struggle to become a tree―it simply unfolds in grace".

Number 2

I Am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up For Education & Changed The World - Malala Yousafzai

When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. At the age of 15 she almost paid the ultimate price - she was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive. Malala's miraculous journey and recovery has taken her from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York. At just sixteen years of age, Malala became a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest nominee ever for the Nobel Peace Prize. This book will make you believe in the power of one person's voice to inspire change in the world.

Number 3

The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle

The intention of this book is to be a guide for daily life and reflects the importance of living in the present moment and avoiding thoughts of past or future focuses. I love that this book draws from a wide variety of spiritual belief systems and at the core is the simple idea that every minute you spend regretting the past or worrying about the future is a minute lost. All you have to live in is the present - the now, and this book gives you effective carry-through strategies to start living every minute as it occurs.

Number 4

The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho

Paulo Coelho's enchanting novel is a story rich in powerful simplicity and inspiring wisdom. The book focuses on an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure which is buried in the Pyramids. Along his travels he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself King, and an Alchemist, all of whom guide Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to overcome the obstacles along the way. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly 'material' goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within.

Number 5

The Art of Happiness - 14th Dalai Lama & Howard C. Cutler

This book really doesn't require much of an explanation however what I will share is the book incorporates a mix of Western Psychology with the teachings of Buddhism and the beliefs of the Dalai Lama. The notion that “happiness is a function of how we perceive our situation, how satisfied we are with what we have” - is what the book is all about and it provides ample examples of how to deal with common situations. Gratitude is a consistent theme throughout the book which is probably why I resonate with it so much.

Start with one of these books and really give yourself the space and time to read, learn and implement the teachings behind the words. We live in a world where we are always distracted and social media can take over so taking time out to benefit your mind and soul will do you the world of good!

Happy Reading!
